Hello everyone out in”Wuz Up in Nica Lesa” land! As you are already aware, Lesa is hopefully back in the United States at this point having slept at least a few hours in our soft bed, in the A/C, with warm water AND NO BUGS! How happy should she be right about now? Hummm…well I don’t know for sure. Nica is definitely her second home…one that actually runs a very close second to Chantilly, Virginia. She blossoms in Nica and while it is a daily challenge here for her, she loves Nica!!!
As you might expect, writing to her blog is going to be a real challenge. First I am not a great writer AND I am not disciplined to the level she is regarding journaling. But I am going to give it my best shot to keep you guys up to date and informed.
Yesterday the girls and I dropped Lesa off at the airport to say our goodbyes and start our week long adventure together. Not speaking Spanish is a complete challenge for me and for my communication with Martita. This all became apparent as I tried to explain to her why “momma” was going through the big glass doors and disappearing into the security area. I quickly pulled out the “helpful Spanish phrases” Lesa had prepared for me…scanned down it looking for “momma will be back soon”. I saw “Be nice to your sister”…”wash your hands”…”be careful”…”put your pajamas on”, “go to bed”, “don’t pull your sister’s hair”…but nothing on “momma will be back”!!!! Hummmm….I hope this isn’t some sort of contrived plan by Mi Esposa (my wife)! So my only thought was to chain together my bad Spanglish and my skill in the game of Charades and start communicating. I am not sure what I said and did with arm, leg and head gyrations but it seemed to satisfy Martita’s questions. Lucie of course helped by jumping in and it was probably her Spanish that helped Martita finally stop asking the question. Either that or she has learned to be embarrassed by her Papa! We were all quite the sight! I decided it was best that we just leave the airport and get into the “safety” of the taxi and head home where we would not continue to be viewed as the wacky Gringos from the United States. Lesson learned…STAY OUT OF PUBLIC PLACES FOR AT LEAST A COUPLE OF DAYS!
To say the least, I was a bit exhausted by day’s end. Martita went to bed at 7:30, Lucie at 8:30…me at 8:31. So it’s off to El Canyon and the orphanage today! Thanks for reading everyone and being such a great support structure for our family. We love you guys!

Hi Tim!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful week. I'm sure it will be filled with great stories for you to share with us.
Hi Sweetie,This is the first time I've able to read the blogs for about a week. We have no service at the park. We are using Tom's bros. in Denver. I know that this will be an interesting week (to say the least) but I'm sure you're up for the challenge. Hope will be able to get on line at our next stops. Kiss the girls for G&G. Love you, Carol XOXOXOXO
ReplyDeleteHere's to a great week Tim - I know you'll do great! You have our full support, love and prayers. We can't wait to read how your next few days go! Please give our love to all the kids - we miss them so much! Adios mi amigo!
ReplyDeleteHey love!!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you were always pretty good at Charades!! I can picture you attempting to communicate and then Goose "helping" you - Please tell me you didn't use English words and spoke very loudly and slowly!! I keep thinking what's going on in my Martita's mind....something like, "Momma - come save me"!!! Seriously, I know you will do great - and the bonding experience you will have with the girls....priceless!! ;) I'm sure you are not thinking that way right now!! Your blogging is great and I am so so happy that you are there blogging and I am here.... commenting!! Albeit, being with my husband is what is missing in my life - I am happy to be home - in our soft awesome bed - taking hot showers and feeling like myself again.
My first day home included a stop at my nail shop where I held up my "Nicaragua" feet and said "save me"!!! With freshly painted toes and nails....I feel almost normal again.
I want to thank you again, my love, for being my partner in this adoption process - for giving me the opportunity to come home, go to my nephew's graduation and recharge!! So needed and so appreciated!!
I love you with all my heart and wish you a fabulous week!!
